It was all over everything - on the TV, under the Chesterfield.

“Just let it die,” she said, standing stone straight beneath the death ray fluorescents,

“I don’t want to pay those vet bills.”

She was the perfect Caucasian – blue, melt water eyes quivering in the creases of her gypsum face.

We started in on the dissection. When we got right down to the lower reaches, we found this little fetus.

It was rock hard but there it was, staring at us with the same blue eyes.

I wrapped it in some tissues and plopped it into the bucket.

Everybody applauded, but I tried to put it out of my mind.

It’s all over now, I guess.
